Feb. 29, 2016 - Now accepting Steward self-nomination applications for 1st, 2nd and weekend shifts

Being a Union Steward is one of the most challenging, rewarding and important roles in our union. Union Stewards have an enormous impact on our members because they are the front line defending the members every day at work. Applications will be accepted from Feb. 29 through 5 p.m. on March 11.

Members can self nominate online (click here for pdf you can print or fill and email), by email (if not using form, be sure to include all information asked for in next sentence), fax, in person at the hall or over the phone. To self nominate, you must provide: Name, phone #, email address, Employee #, Employer, Work Location (plant), Area/Shop/Building #, Shift, Job Code.

Feb. 16, 2016 Update: Members Ratify Revised Offer by 72 percent

On Feb. 16, you voted by 72 percent to accept a revised Cadence offer.

Your Union Negotiating Committee would like to thank your bargaining unit committee members and all members on the shop floor for their hard work and continued dedication to getting a first contract that lays a foundation we can build on for the future.

You had overwhelmingly rejected a previous offer with a 94-percent no vote on Feb. 5. That solidarity triggered a new round of negotiations, which led to an improved offer that you approved by 72-percent.

“Our members stood together and won themselves a first union contract they can be proud of,” said Richard Jackson, who led the negotiating team from Machinists Union District Lodge 751. “We didn’t get everything we wanted in this contract, but we made very real improvements and our members should be proud of what they accomplished.”

“This contract is a good starting point and something we can build on for the future,” said IAM 751 President Jon Holden. “I thank everyone who served on the negotiating committee and I congratulate our members at Cadence-Giddens for what they’ve accomplished so far.”

Feb. 12 2016 Update: Contract Vote Tuesday, Feb. 16 from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Because you voted down the contract AND authorized a strike, your negotiating committee met with the Company and worked hard on your top issue of compensation. Below are documents showing the results of these efforts and your solidarity. They include a meeting notice, summary of changes, information on the ULP, Full text of the contract, and a financial comparison between the offers.

You will only be voting on the current contract offer. If this contract offer is REJECTED, a ULP STRIKE WILL BE CALLED. You have already voted to STRIKE.

Feb. 8, 2016 Update: Setting the Record Straight (download the flyer below)

Feb. 5, 2016 Update: Members Vote to Reject Cadence’s Last, Best and Final Contract Offer and Have Authorized a Strike. New Bargaining Session Scheduled for Tuesday.

Today, you showed incredible solidarity as you resoundingly rejected the last, best and final offer from Cadence by 94 percent. You also showed solidarity by overwhelmingly reaffirming the strike vote by 89 percent.

The activities and messages you sent Cadence over the last few days tell them they need to do better. I hope the company was listening. The strong vote today clearly shows there are issues that Cadence must address in a contract to get approval by this membership.

While you have authorized a strike, your strong vote compels the negotiating committees to go back to the table. Your Union negotiating team will be meeting with Cadence on Tuesday.

Members should continue to go to work as usual.

As we said all along, ultimately members make the decision at the Machinists Union.
Today you demonstrated that with your vote.

Your solidarity continues to be your strength, and we need to continue to count on each other as we enter this next round of bargaining. Stay strong, stay united!

In Solidarity,
Your Union Negotiating Team

Feb. 3, 2016 Update: Your Voice is Your Vote! Vote Friday, Feb. 5.

Your negotiating team has worked for months pushing to get Cadence to address your issues. It has been a slow process, but substantial progress has been made. On Feb. 2, the Company presented its Last, Best and Final offer to present to the membership for a vote; a tentative agreement was NOT REACHED.

This offer does make some improvements in pay and paid time off, and provides for a lump sum payment. For those reasons, we recommend that our members vote to ACCEPT and as always, we recommend members vote to authorize a STRIKE to ensure the committee has options should a majority of members reject the offer.

Click here for a pdf summary of the last, best and final offer.
Click on images below for summary, full offer text, meeting notice, and vote flyer.

Feb. 3, 2016 - Update

Brothers and Sisters:
Your Union Negotiating Committee met with the Company yesterday. And after the Union passed its proposal for Wages, PTO, 401K and Seniority the Company countered with what they described as a last, best and final proposal for our members to vote on.

You will be asked to vote on this first contract on Friday 2/5/2016 at the Everett IAM Union Hall, 8729 Airport Road. Voting will start at 5:00 AM until 7:00 PM. Ballots will be tallied starting at 7:01 PM and results will immediately be posted on the web.

Details of the Company's offer will be on this website later today. Paper copies will be available to each of you by the end of business on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016.

It is critical that each of you exercise your right to vote on this critical first agreement but you must be a member to vote.  If you are not currently a member, contact a committee member for an application—they will also be available at the voting location.

Questions about this critical first agreement can be answered in person all day on Friday by Union negotiators at the Everett Hall.

We are also available by phone immediately at 425-355-8821 or 206-764-0304

January 13, 2016 - Update

Your Union Negotiating committee met with the Company yesterday. Both the Union and the Company passed counter proposals and tentatively agreed to Management Rights, Union Security, and Past Practice.

Brothers and Sisters because of your continued solidarity we are getting closer to a completed agreement that you can vote on but the last remaining contract articles are some of the most critical. In fact, these last remaining articles are some of the main reasons why the Union was voted in and what members have adamantly said are must haves.

  • Compensation -More money in wages
  • PTO - More PTO for each employee
  • Seniority

Collectively, we must continue to fight for what we believe is right and each of you deserve higher wages, additional PTO and meaningful seniority language. But we have to stand together and show the company we are willing to do whatever it takes to get an agreement we can be proud of. We've come too far to give up now. Stay strong and show your support for YOUR Union on the shop floor. Be proud that you joined the IAM.

December 18, 2015 - Update

Your Union Negotiating Committee met with Cadence twice this week, both the Union and the company passed counter proposals on Union Security, Management Rights, Past Practice, No Strikes/No Lockout, Compensation, Seniority and Holidays.
Brother and Sisters we are down to bargaining over the last few articles before you are presented with a contract offer to vote on.
But your Top issues are NOT where they need to be.  Based on industry standards, your wages are much lower than others in aerospace performing the same or like work.  You all deserve not just a wage increase, but an ongoing path for progression within your job classification.  Other top issues are:

  • Union Security so that your Union remains strong
  • Additional PTO to make up for many hours you work throughout the year for Cadence and deserve more PTO.
  • Seniority that provides a path to promotions and other opportunities within the company.

Because of the upcoming holidays, we are not scheduled to meet again until January 7th.  Your Union wishes you and your families a safe, happy holiday season and we will see you next year.  If anything comes up during the holidays, contact one of your stewards—they know how to get in touch with your Business Representative.

December 2nd 2015 - Update

Brothers & Sisters,

Your IAM Negotiating Committee met yesterday with Cadence and we continued to fight for a contract that you can be proud of.

The Union and the Company passed a number of Articles back and forth but the Company is still intent on forcing a wage package that will NOT provide wage increases for all the membership.  ALL members work hard to make Cadence successful and ALL members should see improved wages and benefits from these negotiations.

Cadence needs to see that you are serious about making significant improvements to your wages and benefits for ALL of you!  Show your support and unity on the shop floor and if you are asked to attend a meeting come and get informed first hand and if you are asked to participate in other ways join us, this is for you and your family’s future.

Stay Strong and be sure to attend the All Hands Meeting at the Everett Union Hall this Friday December 4, 2015  2:30pm to 7:00pm.

In Unity
IAM Negotiating Committee

November 20th 2015 - Update

Thanks to your continued solidarity, your negotiating committee agreed to tentative agreements on Articles pertaining to Union Representative access to the plants, Union Stewards, Union business, grievance and arbitration procedures, education assistance, and a miscellaneous article that covers many minor topics.

A lot of discussion took place in the last two days regarding your top issues and hopefully more progress will be made on those topics next Tuesday.

Your negotiating committee is committed to this process and we are looking forward to reporting more progress to you on Tuesday.

Continue to stay united.

August 19, 2015 update

Your Union Negotiating committee met on Tuesday with Cadence and we continue to be your voice at the bargaining table. We had lengthy discussions on a number of Articles such as Union Representation, Union Stewards, New Employees, Workweek/Shifts, Overtime, Grievance/Arbitration, Health & Safety. All of these topics are very important to achieving a FAIR First Contract. This process is very labor intensive, but we are making progress.

Stay STRONG and remember why you wanted to be in a UNION - to have a voice and get a FAIR CONTRACT from Cadence. Keep wearing your UNION shirts proudly and show Cadence that we are UNITED!

August 12th 2015 - Update

Your Union negotiating committee met again on Tuesday, Aug. 11 with Cadence and continued to emphasize to company reps the concerns brought forward through surveys, your negotiating committee and issues members wrote or called into the Union Hall.

Although this was only our third meeting with Cadence, the Union has passed many proposals to the Company. We have had a lot of discussion on many topics to illustrate why these issues are important to address in a contract. We have a lot more ground to cover to finalize this first agreement.

Please remember why you asked for a Union. You no longer want to be an AT WILL employee. You deserve to share in the profits you generate. You had the courage to say YES to a Union and the next task is to get a FAIR CONTRACT from Cadence!

Stay strong on the shop floor. Keep showing your solidarity on the shop floor. The Company needs to see that you believe in the Union, you are proud to be Union and that you deserve a fair contract.

If you have concerns about changes in working conditions call the Union Hall or report it on this website at the top left “ULP Reporting.”

May 26th 2015 - Meeting Notice, Letter and Map

May 15th 2015 - CONGRATULATIONS!

Vote tally was 97 Yes to 73 No

However, due to the 25 challenged ballots by Cadence those 25 challenged ballots will determine the final outcome.

Therefore we will not know the final tally until after a determination of eligibility is made on the not yet counted challenged ballots.
The good news is, it will take 23 of the 25 challenged ballots to be No in order for you not to have your union.

Once again just another example of Cadence holding you back.

A hearing may be scheduled as soon as possible but no later than 21 days from today.
